Conclusions and Implications for Clinical Practice
Conclusions and Implications for Clinical Practice
As a current or future nursing researcher and professional, your ability to draw reasonable conclusions from research findings will determine the effectiveness of proposed solutions for clinical nursing practice. As you continue to develop your skill set to become a nursing leader, your exposure to a multitude of research designs, research findings, and evidence-based practice will likely inform how you will absorb this knowledge into meaningful clinical practice. Throughout this course and program, your exposure to different research questions, research study designs, and approaches to addressing serious issues in both nursing and health care confirms the ever-changing landscape in which you have elected to practice. While this is in its own right challenging, it also offers several opportunities to create new knowledge, improve upon current nursing practice, and exercise research skills Conclusions and Implications for Clinical Practice

for positive patient outcomes.
For this Assignment, review the Research Methods and Findings of the Verweij study conducted in 2014 in this week’s resources. The primary purpose of this quantitative research study was to investigate the effectiveness of an intervention to decrease medication errors in a hospital. The citation and discussion/conclusion information is intentionally deleted so you can draw your own conclusions.
In a 2- to 3-page, double-spaced paper, describe three conclusions you have drawn from the findings in this study, taking into consideration the limitations of the study. Next describe three implications for clinical practice. Once you have submitted the assignment, you will be given the full article for review.
The disruption of drug rounds has significant implications for patient safety. Evidence indicates that the work environment of nurses is typified by regular disruptions. Therefore, it is necessary to implement an intervention that can reduce disruptions. The study indicates that the drug round tabards intervention was effective in decreasing interruptions during medication administration and also the medication administration errors (MAEs). Therefore, this confirms the efficacy of drug round tabards in improving medication safety and there it is an important intervention to improve the quality of nursing care. However, nurses revealed some uneasiness regarding wearing the tabard. It is therefore important to establish the widely accepted alternative to tabards among nurses that can be used in the same manner as tabards. In addition, the reduction rate of MAEs cannot be fully attributed to the reduction in interruptions because there are other factors that could have influenced the reduced of MAEs. It is thus important to determine other factors that can be combined with reduced interruptions in order to further reduce the MAE. Conclusions and Implications for Clinical Practice
Implications for Clinical Practice
Visible symbols such as drug round tabards are used to identify nurses and indicate to other healthcare providers and patients that the nurse is administering medication, and hence interruption is unwanted. Therefore, healthcare organizations should consider implementing the medication round tabards in the wards in order to reduce the rate of MAEs. Any nurse performing medication administration should be required to wear a tabard in order to avoid interruptions during medication administration. Lastly, the healthcare organizations should implement policies and standard protocols regarding drug round tabards and other protocols administration of medication; these policies and protocols should be evidence-based.
