Developing Clinical Judgement Essay
Clinical judgment supports sound decision-making in the clinical setting. During my practice, I encounter multiple situations that demand critical judgment. Being an open-minded person has helped me in perceiving the healthcare situations in global view to facilitate cultural sensitivity which is currently a major issue of concern. Moreover, I am inquisitive and flexible which have supported me in gaining and applying evidence-based clinical knowledge through consultations. I am also able to prevent medical errors since I am always well informed and focus my attention to opportunities to employ critical thinking. Developing Clinical Judgement Essay

Better clinical judgment can be developed through various strategies. As a new nurse in the specialty, I would focus on case review strategy whereby, I will explore actual and purposefully developed cases to gain insights on clinical judgment. Moreover, I will engage in peer reviewing that entails development of clinical judgment skills through analysis and documentation of past patient care practices for each patient. On the other hand, reflection contributes to development of clinical judgment (Catalano, 2015). This is associated with looking back at the past clinical experiences and learning from the consequences. Relevant knowledge is gained from synthesis and analysis of past experiences. Limited clinical judgment and critical thinking skills affect the extent of nursing practice that one can engage in. For instance, with my current skills, I cannot independently engage in the planning process of nursing. This is because, intensive clinical judgment and critical thinking is involved in assessment, and diagnosis that supports planning and therefore, the formulation of a patient treatment plan could necessitate my collaboration with other experts of these areas (Catalano, 2015). This would help in ensuring the safety of the patient as I also gain clinical knowledge and critical judgment skills for future practice.
