Part 1.
Leadership refers to the approach applied to influence and motivate others to achieve goals and accomplish tasks within an environment. In fact, leadership theories are presented to explain how the influence and motivation occurs. Two leadership theories have been discussed as presented. The first theory is the life cycle theory of leadership (situational leadership) that evaluates the concept of leadership based on relationship orientation and task orientation. Relationship orientation is an established relationship between the leader and subordinates with the intention of establishing considerations for feelings and ideas, and establishing respect and trust. Task orientation is the extent to with a leader with direct the efforts of subordinates towards attaining goals. The theory recognizes four leadership styles that include directing, coaching, supporting, and delegating. The theory has four strengths. Firstly, it improves the organization’s bottom line through improving the level of development and performance of personnel. Secondly, stresses leadership flexibility that allows for responsiveness to prevailing needs. Thirdly, allows leaders to influence subordinates based on behavior and style. Fourthly, enables leaders to better assess the performance level of personnel. Still, the theory has three weaknesses. Firstly, it is based on propositions and assumptions with limited information to support or disapprove them. Secondly, difficult to establish the correlation between commitment and competence focused on task accomplishment. Thirdly, require the use of a common instrument to accurately score performance (Cote, 2017). Discussion 2 week 1 Assignment

The second theory is path-goal theory, which mentions that a leader’s behavior will impact individual path-goal instrumentalities to either hinder or help goal attainment. It defines path-goal instrumentality as the perception of how behavior and actions (path) are related to idiosyncratic outcomes (goals). In fact, the theory explains the relationship between the behavior of a leader and perception of subordinates based on the degree to which a particular path will lead to a specific goal. The theory identifies four leadership behaviors that include directive, supportive, participative, and achievement-oriented leadership approaches. Overall, the theory suggests that leaders are directed to help their subordinates accomplish tasks in a manner that is satisfactory to them, to imply that the leader chooses a leadership approach that correlates to the specific task and best fits identified needs. The theory has three strengths. Firstly, it offers a good model for helping individuals in clarifying their goals and how they can be achieved in terms of productivity. Secondly, it motivates individuals. Thirdly, its offers the groundwork for understanding what motivates leaders to make decisions targeted at specific performance. The theory has two weaknesses. Firstly, it assumes that the relationship between leaders and subordinates is based on expectations that determine motivation. Secondly, it is based on the leader’s behavior motivating subordinates, which is not always the case (Cote, 2017). Discussion 2 week 1 Assignment
Part 2.
Florida State legislation has a statute that makes it mandatory to report all cases of child abuse, abandonment, and neglect as well as death. Published in Title V, Chapter 39, of the 2919 Florida Statutes, it indicates that all nurses (and other occupational categories who have regular contact with children) are obligated to report all known and suspected cases of child abuse, abandonment, neglect and death to a central abuse hotline staff. They are also required to provide their names when making the report. This implies that as a nurse, if faced with a pediatric case in which the child has injuries that are suspected to have been caused by adult abuse as well as scars showing incidences of previous abuse, then the Florida State legislation mandates that the case should be reported to the central abuse hotline for additional action that would allow the child to be protected. The specific procedure for making the mandatory report would entail calling the central abuse hotline to make a verbal report before preparing and sending a written report to the sheriff’s office within 48 hours of making the verbal report.
