Nursing diagnosis is acute pain due to impaired urinary elimination. The acute pain is a result of increased ureter contractions, tissue trauma, cellular ischemia, and edema due to the renal calculi. The patient presents with colicky pain, anxiety, and masking of facial pain. The pain is associated with urinary symptoms such as dysuria, urgency, and frequency. Pain-related to urinary symptoms is usually at the flank region radiating to the abdomen. Hence, causing gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting. The patient’s vitals are blood pressure at 142/90mmHg, pulse rate at 110 beats per minute, and respiratory rate at 22 cycles per minute. These vitals are high due to increased intensity of pain ad restlessness.

The nursing interventions involve treating acute pain and urinary symptoms. Acute pain depends on the intensity of the pain. This patient’s pain is so intense that she describes it as nine on a scale of 0-10. The pain is at the flank region and results in restlessness as the patient is noticed walking around.
