Fair trade is when the producers in the developing countries are paid a fair price for their work by companies of the developed countries. It is an agreement whereby the seller pays fair wages and provides good working conditions in the developing countries. It enables the farmers to afford basic needs; food, shelter, clothing, and healthcare services (Sellare, et al, 2020). Fairtrade was an initiated partnership that showed interest in the needs of all the farmers representing a solution to poverty and a development model. Trading practices are fair and not one-sided. The prices paid are fair and sufficient for producers and workers to earn enough to meet their daily needs. Fairtrade payments are often made in advance to ensure the supplier fulfills their orders. Fairtrade was formed in the 1970s to provide a guaranteed product price to the producers regardless of the price on the world market. It empowers the farmers and co-workers to combat poverty, strengthen their position and take control of their lives. Eventually, it caused the formation of more companies and the provision of safe working conditions. Money collected from the higher-priced goods is used in building schools, providing supplies, scholarship programs, and healthy meals (Sellare, et al, 2020). Fairtrade has ensured proper education for all the children in the outlying families. The money also prevents them from falling into poverty and may learn environmentally sustainable practices.
