Education Program targeting Latino Americans Parents
An educational program will target parents, and particularly women. The intervention will mostly target women, given their role in influencing behaviors, environment, and types of foods consumed in a family setting (Laws et al, 2015). The education will be delivered in both Spanish and English language. The training program will 1-hour, whenever the parent visits the healthcare organization. Using role-playing and problem-solving strategies, the education program will involve educating parents regarding healthy nutrition and different types of physical activities (Holub et al, 2013). Parent strategies will involve encouraging parents to make use of the trained practices at home. Specifically, parents will be taught to include more vegetables and fruits in their diet; eat less high-sugar foods; avoid snacks; void high-fat foods; encourage outdoor activities; and limit TV and computer time (Holub et al, 2013). All study resources will be available in Spanish and English.
In another country, the message will be availed only in English language. In addition, the message will be tailored to fit the types of food consumed in the country as well as the well-accepted physical activities in the country. Obesity Epidemic Assignment Paper

This approach was selected because food and exercise parenting practices are strategies that parents use to influence the among and kinds of food the family eats as well as the physical activities within a home setting (Laws et al, 2015). For example, teaching parents about responsive eating practices, like role-modeling healthy eating behaviors in their family and encouraging balanced and varied diet within the family has been shown to promote healthier diets and reduce body mass index (BMI).
Challenges that a nurse may experience include resistance from the audience/parents to adapt the recommended health behaviors (Holub et al, 2013). For example, some people may not be willing to shift from their cultural foods that are not deemed as healthy and adopt a healthier diet that highly contains fruits and vegetables.
