Organizational identity
The metropolitan police force works in a unique environment that differentiates them from other law enforcement agencies. In fact, these differences in the environment are variations that characterize the nature of the community being policed and the pressure that the police force would face. The environment can be broken down into factors. The first factor is the social aspects that are characterized by diversity owing to the nature of metropolitan areas to include persons from different social backgrounds. The second factor is economic aspects that are characterized by a wide spectrum mainly comprised of persons with average economic capabilities although persons at the two ends of the spectrum (high and low economic capabilities) would also be present. The third factor is demographics that is mainly characterized by age differences in which case most of the population is comprised of adults who are working and earning. The fourth factor is ecology in which older youth and young adults are noted to have a non-harmonious relationship with the police with a high probability of these populations facing charges rather than informal police action (Palmer, Berlin & Das, 2012). Practical reflection
Psychological/criminal profilers require skills beyond what the degree. In fact, a degree would only allow them to acquire analytical and communication skills. The analytical skills allow them to develop professional profiles based on traits and behaviors linked to the crime. The communication skills allow them to communicate with other organizations. The first skill acquired outside the degree is perception that allows them to notice the important details that other people would typically overlook. This includes recognizing clues such as social patterns and cues that may not be obvious. The second skill is attention to detail that allows them to notice even the smallest details that seem irrelevant. The final skill is physical fitness that allows them to meet the physical demands of their duties. The three skills are acquired through practice and specifically cultivating them.
