Person-Centered Care Essay

Person-Centered Care

Person-centered care is also known as patient-centered care. It is the empowering of the patients to take charge of their health. The care provider takes care of the patients respectfully and responsively to meet the patient’s preferences, values, and needs. In this case, the patient is valuable in making clinical decisions. Person-centered care is collaborative, accessible, and coordinated at the right time and the right place (Eklund, et al, 2019). Person-centered care changes the healthcare system’s mission and values to improve the quality of care. Patient-centered care focuses on both physical and emotional well-being. Person-centered care aims to improve individual health outcomes, improve patient satisfaction scores, reduce the cost of care, and increase the productivity and morale of healthcare providers. Application Of Principles Holistic Nursing, Cultural Humility, And Self-Reflection In My Future Role As A Nurse

Holistic care principles are the values that they use when providing whole care to patients. Holistic care principles include identifying the individual patient, acknowledging the whole patient, and identifying the stress factors for the patient (Frisch, N. C., & Rabinowitsch, D. 2019). This will help me understand their preferences when providing patient-centered care.

Cultural humility is a mindset that allows healthcare providers to be open to other people’s preferences through demonstrations of empathy and respectful inquiry. It enables the nurse practitioners to develop a cultural competency that promotes humility and a better understanding (Stubbe, D. E. 2020). In my practice, I will be in a better position to provide patient-centered care to all patients despite their cultural backgrounds because I will be open to their identities and beliefs.

Self-reflection is the practice of thinking about our thoughts, actions, emotions, and feelings neutrally. It is the journey to self-awareness and personal growth that enables individuals to look at themselves with interest and curiosity (Mirro, et al, 2018). Self-awareness and reflection of my emotions and feel would help me integrate person-centered care by practicing empathy and respect for their needs. Person-Centered Care Essay

How Have Changes In Healthcare Affected The Nurse’s Ability To Provide Patient-Centered Care

Healthcare transformation can be caused by unsustainable costs, fragmentations, access problems, and suboptimal outcomes. The unsustainable increase in the cost of healthcare has led to a reduction in the number of care providers. Therefore, there is an increase in nurse workload making it difficult to offer patient-centered care. The cost of healthcare is a huge burden to patients with chronic illnesses that deserve person-centered care. The majority of these patients cannot afford these health services. Fragmentation is a departure from clinical practice due to increased healthcare costs. It affects patient-centered care because the patient cannot afford healthcare services.

Cultural Humility

I correspond harmoniously to cultural humility during my practice because of the diverse cultural relations experience. With the changing technology and increased migration, I have interacted with people from diverse communities and I have learned to understand their values and beliefs. This aspect has helped improve patient satisfaction by according them person-centered care. Self-awareness and holistic nursing principles have also helped me to meet the patient’s preferences and values.

How Cultural Humility Will Affect My Practice

I believe the cultural humility I cultivated overtime during my practice will have a positive impact on person-centered care and the disease outcome. The knowledge of other people’s beliefs and values has helped me as a care provider respect their preferences without judgment. Cultural humility will help me improve patient satisfaction and health outcome. Person-Centered Care Essay
