Professional Development Plan Research
Introduction
A professional development plan is an important tool since it facilitates career development by allowing the individual to take responsibility for career choices. In fact, it ensures that the energy and time are efficiently and optimally expended in pursuing the career (Masters, 2014). Other than considering individual satisfaction, planning a career also looks at the changes and trends in the environment to include job security in relation to the level of education. This is done with the intention of identifying the right job and employer (Jasper, Rosser & Mooney, 2013). Besides that, an undeniable reality is that management changes have occasioned a shift from traditional linear career paths towards lateral patterns that call for flexibility, adaptability, and creativity in identifying career opportunities since they are occasions for broadening experiences and leveraging skills. Also, rapid advances in knowledge and technology have brought about general obsolescence that requires professionals to upgrade their skills and retool themselves (Schober & Ash, 2012). The present paper evaluates the concept of professional development for a personal nursing career and presenting a plan on how to achieve desired nursing career objectives Professional Development Plan Research .
Vision
My vision as a nurse is that I will turn into a competent medical professional capable of offering direct nursing services that entail leading other health professionals in engaging the public and patients in health forums and discussions. This includes participating in consultations with medical care teams to take advantage of their extensive expertise and experience, along with enhancing the possibility of ethical decision-making. In addition, I would like to work in a variety of workplace locations to include outpatient, home, inpatient and field locations to implement both non-invasive and invasive monitoring, along with handling all nursing features of medical care. In this respect, my vision is to become a competent nurse capable of handling any medical situation.

My vision is informed by my understanding that nursing profession is concerned with offering a public service essential for continued survival. Being a nurse would allow me to interact with the public and observe the value of nursing care in bringing about change. In addition, I would be able to influence public health policies implementation to guarantee the good health of my charges. As such, a nurse is a public servant who addresses public health needs. In addition, the core of nursing is its link to humanity. In fact, humanity acts as the foundation for offering nursing care by presenting an opportunity for medical personnel to end suffering. This understanding ensures that nurses offer the best possible care in every situation. Besides that, the focus of nursing is on ensuring that patients receive rounded care that goes beyond meeting their physical needs as regards their ailment or injury. Offering rounded care applies holistic care to ensure that the patient receives optimum healing to address factors from four principal environments. The environments include internal, interpersonal, behavioral, and external environments. As a result, my vision of being a competent nurse capable of handling any medical situation is informed by my understanding that nurses offer public services Professional Development Plan Research .
Goals and plan to achieve them
Over the course of my nursing education program, I intend to achieve six goals. My first goal is to take on a leadership role for a health program within multidisciplinary medical teams. I will achieve this goal by taking charge of a program such as taking charge of the influenza vaccination program to ensure that patients receive the right vaccines. I would use the medical facilities and vaccines as resources. My success in achieving this goal would be measured by the number of procedures I supervise without errors.
My second goal is to apply evidence from research to enhance professional nursing practice. I will achieve this goal by first understanding the concept of evidence-based practice then developing proficiency in carrying out and interpreting nursing research. In addition, I will learn how to locate and evaluate the value of nursing publications before applying my findings in nursing practice. For instance, I have used nursing research to understand that disinfecting my hands before handling patients reduces the possibility of sepsis.
My third goal is to design care for communities, groups, and individuals. I will achieve this goal by first joining a medical care team then taking on the responsibility of designing medical care. I understand that this would require me to locate and critically review publications on the care needs before making recommendations on the in-service education sessions other medical personnel should attend and how they should approach care in terms of operating procedures. Achieving this goal will allow me to appreciate the effort that other medical professionals expend in designing operational plans for medical care provision and evaluation.
My fourth goal is to incorporate health education and promotion methods in providing nursing care to groups, families, and individuals irrespective of whether they have simple or complex medical needs. I intend to achieve these goals by adopting a comprehensive approach to care that entails preparing and using communication education posters and charts the inform patients about their condition and management.
My fifth goal is to learn how to accept responsibility and accountability for professional actions and judgments. I will achieve this goal by first understanding that as a leader, I must determine the most efficient way for using nursing and medical resources to ensure that whatever is available can meet the existing demand. This would require me to review available resources and plan for future demand based on past demand. Given that success is based on how efficient resources are used, I must learn how to plan for and use medical resources in order to take responsibility and accountability for professional actions and judgments Professional Development Plan Research .
My final goal is to examine problems of contemporary illness and health and illness to include evaluating my patients’ choices and using that information to improve health outcomes. I will achieve this goal by learning how to identify preconceived notions about knowledge, values, and behavior that influence health outcomes then comparing that information to research evidence. I believe that through addressing contemporary medical needs, I will be better positioned to appraise and evaluate my patients’ attitudes and behaviors about disease and health.
Conclusion
One must accept a professional development plan is important to any student since it presents an estimate of the desired career goals. As a nursing student, I must present a plan of what I intend to achieve in my career and how to go about making that achievement. The present plan shows that in the course of attending my nursing program, I will achieve six goals. In this respect, the professional development plan permits me to reflect on how to gain nursing self-awareness and experience with the intention of preparing for future nursing leadership career opportunities.
