Nurse use this theory to educate mothers on the importance of bonding with their children at their early stages (Kordi et al, 2017). The bond established at the early stages of a child’s life is strong and long-lasting.

I selected maternal role attainment theory since it is applicable in daily nursing practices particularly those working in the maternity. Ramona Mercer came up with this theory to enhance strong bonding between infants and their mothers (Husmillo, 2013). This theory has four stages, which apply to nursing intervention. Anticipatory is the first phase in which the mother anticipates the infant. Nurses use this theory to prepare mothers for the rival of their infants. Formal that lasts from birth through six months is the second stage in which the nurses advocate mothers to maintain close contact with their children for bonding. Informal is the third stage in which the child becomes a member of the family. The last stage is personal where the child becomes independent from other family members.
