My assigned disorder was paraphilic disorders, while you handled gender dysphoria. Paraphilic disorders refer to the persistent and strong sexual fantasies, desires, urges or behaviors that are extremely distressing and involve objects, children or non-consensual adults, or result to harm or suffering to self, or the sexual partner (Marshall & Marshall, 2015). On the other hand, gender dysphoria is the conflict between an individual’s physical gender and the gender they wish to identify with (Byne et al, 2018). Generally, these two disorders have completely different diagnostic criteria due to different clinical features. Reply: Gender Dysphoria Assignment

According to the DSM-5 criteria, the diagnostic criteria of gender dysphoria includes; a significant incongruence between an individual’s expressed gender and the physical gender; strongly yearning d to develop secondary sex traits associated with the desired gender; strong desire to belong to the opposite gender; strong need to be viewed and treated as the opposite gender; and a strong belief that an individual has the characteristic feelings and reactions associated with the opposite gender (Byne et al, 2018). On the other hand, the diagnostic criteria of paraphilic disorders consists of features such as consistent strong sexual fantasies involving children, objects, non-consenting individuals; strong need to eliminate the sex characteristics associated with the primary/physical gender; as well as humiliating or effecting suffering to the self, or the sexual partner (American Psychiatric Association, 2014). Both disorders (paraphilic disorders and gender dysphoria) lead to significant distress to the individuals who have disorders.
