Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD) Essay

The post was well written with good insight into schizoid personality disorder as a psychiatric condition. I especially like and appreciate the information that was presented as well as its format that outline the critical aspects of the condition. It is remarkable that although there are a range of medical conditions that would be considered as personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder is shown to be distinct. Firstly, the article begins with an introductory paragraph that outlines the disorder and the purpose of the article. Secondly, it discusses the diagnostic criteria for the condition using the criteria outlined in DSM-5. Schizoid Personality Disorder (SPD) Essay The definition for the condition is admirable, especially the quote that the condition is outlined by behavioral deficits that hinder social interactions. Another commendable aspect is the inclusion of two contrasting criteria for diagnosing the condition, not how the two complement each other to offer a good understanding of the condition. Secondly, the article outlines the treatment opportunities for the condition, noting the strengths and weaknesses of each treatment option.

Thirdly, it mentions the clinical features that medical personnel should note when making a diagnosis. While the diagnostic criteria and clinical features might appear similar, the author applied commendable effort in showing how the two complement each other to support diagnosis efforts (Gabbard, 2014). Still, I feel that the clinical features should have done with more information. In fact, the author should have included information on the specific steps and tests undertaken to diagnose the condition, such as when to conduct an interview and with whom, what to note when conducting a physical and mental examination, as well as how conditions particular to a patient influence symptoms presentation as well as treatment options (Wheeler, 2014). Including these aspects will improve the article. Overall, the article has been well written.
