The differences between an adjustment disorder and anxiety disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) is mental health illness marked by pervasive, extreme worry about many different things (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, 2015). For example, a man who is worried about his loved ones being in a car accident might insist that they call him when they get home. If they do not call him, he might assume they have been involved in an accident.

Adjustment disorder is a short-term mental condition that happens when an individual finds it extremely difficult to adjust to, or cope with a certain stress (Casey, 2018). For instance, a woman who has recently lost her job may have an adjustment disorder if she has spent past two months on the couch feeling distressed. Diagnostic criteria for generalized anxiety disorder
To meet DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for GAD, a person should have excessive worry and anxiety happening more days than not for at least six months, about a range of activities of incidents or events and it’s difficult for the individual to regulate apprehension. Evidence-based psychotherapy and psychopharmacological treatment for general anxiety disorder
GAD can be treated with pharmacotherapy, psychological therapy or a blend of both.
